WHAT IS SNUFF?
In general, the term snuff refers to any powdered preparation to be inhaled through the nose. Most commonly, though, snuff refers to a powdered tobacco product.
The process of preparing snuff has changed little over the centuries. Depending on the blend being prepared, tobacco leaves, and sometimes stalks, are broken down into a coarse powder. They are then ground in a mill or using a hand-powered machine, and finally sieved. In some cases oils and other flavourings are added, and the preparation is stored to allow the flavours to mingle.
The Regnas Snuff Box is modeled on early 19th Century snuff boxes, which at the time were among the most prestigious and treasured of gifts.
